Quid Pro Quo

Quid pro quo (From the Latin meaning "something for something")[1] indicates a more-or-less equal exchange or substitution of goods or services. English speakers often use the term to mean "a favour for a favour" and the phrases with almost identical meaning include: "what for what," "give and take," "tit for tat", "this for that", and "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours".

On December 30, 2008, Former Illinois Governor Rod Blogojevich named a replacement to the vacated seat, belonging to Illinois, in the U.S. Senate. On January 15, 2009, after much Judicial and Political wrangling, Roland Burris was sworn in as the U.S. Senator from the State of Illinois, filling the vacated seat of President Barack Obama. However, on May 27, 2009, the FBI has released an audio tape of a conversation between Mr. Burris and former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s brother, in regard to, Mr. Burris accepting the Senate appointment in exchange for political or financial favors. Transcripts of this conversation can be found at;

Is this a surprising development considering we are talking about politics and honesty? To be a crook or, an outright thief, seem synonymous when discussing any individual in today’s political arena. For President Obama, this is just another distraction from his intended agenda. The question that is being considered is; will there be an indictment of Senator Burris or will he be allowed to continue and let the natural course of politics be the final judge? Only time will tell. But, one thing can be said, the general population is getting a first hand look at Chicago Politics. So far, it has been a real sideshow giving the Republican Party something to shoot at. Of course, the GOP has their issues to contend with as well. This is probably a good thing for the present administration.

So, the saga of Senator Burris will unfold for all to see. I am sure it will be a real spectacle. Remember, the colorful former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, is at the center of all of this. That alone, promises to be entertainment, in itself. I can not wait.

That’s How I See It.
